The post office site was sold to Joe Forgione and Steve Kalafer who are known to have worked on other projects together. Steve, with a net worth north of $800 million, appears to be the “money guy” in the relationship.
Steve Kalafer has amassed a stable of car dealerships and some minor league baseball teams. More recently he has used several LLCs to participate in real estate deals in northern New Jersey, and often with Joe Forgione. These include:
Gladstone At Berkeley Heights
Gladstone At Glenridge
Gladstone at Maplewood
Gladstone At Morrisplains
Being “Glad” has become something of a theme…Mr. Kalafer owns a private home in Gladstone, New Jersey located about a mile from the Gladstone Tavern (owned by the family proposing to open a restaurant in Clarus Maplewood).
While these LLCs have all been formed in the last few years, Joe and Steve go back a ways, and have numerous mutual contacts and business associates.
